Brrrrrr! Brave souls will soon be steering their crazy crafts haphazardly down the mighty cold Ganaraska River, while the rest of us cheer them on and shudder when they go under.
Yes, it’s the 31st Annual Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny and it takes place on Saturday, March 31st. The event is an exciting 10km race in canoes, kayaks, or crazy crafts made out of just about anything that floats.
The canoes and kayaks take off from Canton Bridge on County Road 10 at 10 am, and the crazy crafts from Sylvan Glen conservation area at 11. It takes about an hour for them to reach the prime viewing area at the Barrett Street Bridge in downtown Port Hope.
Prizes will be awarded in various categories, such as fastest time and
largest crew. Be sure to get there early. Up to 15,000 spectators show up for the event each year. There will be food available and kids’ activities along the riverbank.
